FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What age can I start my child in voice lessons?
A: Throughout childhood, the voice is constantly changing and developing. If a child starts intense vocal training too young, it can actually ruin their voice and create really bad habits that will be really hard to break later. For that reason, I don’t start actual vocal coaching until about 13 years old. So then, what about your younger child that loves to sing and perform? Well, before that age, the best thing to help children develop musicality and improve their singing abilities is to provide them with lots of musical experiences. For that reason, starting around 7 years old I will teach children what I call “singing & performance lessons” where they learn and memorize songs, basic singing principles (like good posture and breathing), practice performing skills, and gain confidence. We can even practice monologues and acting skills if the child desires.

Q: Which styles of singing do you teach?
A: While most voice teachers specialize in a certain genre, I have intentionally put a significant amount of effort and work into learning and mastering a variety of styles so that I can effectively teach them. For that reason, I can teach classical, belt, pop, musical theatre, jazz, rock, etc. I encourage students to pull their repertoire from a variety of genres to become well-rounded singers.
